EXPLORATION OF THE DIFFERENT TOURISTS OPPORTUNITIES IN THE LIMBE LOCALITY IN THE SOUTH WEST REGION-CAMEROON

ABSTRACT

 

Known by its slogan “Africa in Miniature” or better still “All of Africa in one Country”, Cameroon has been quoted by the United Nations World Tourism Organization  (UNWTO) for its rich natural resource endowment that constitutes potential attractions for tourism development. The country is however experiencing some difficulties amongst which is the lack of a tourism culture.

This dissertation explores the different opportunities in the Limbe locality in the South West Province and proposes a practical approach (Setting up a Tourism Agency) in an attempt to inculcate the tourism culture amongst the local population of this region. This work highlights the importance of domestic tourism and explores different ways of exploiting and promoting this segment of tourism. A market research focused on corporate workers, as a starting point, was carried out to investigate the existence of a potential market segment for domestic tourism.

The findings reveal that the local population of Limbe constitutes a potential market segment that has not been identified by existing tourism agencies in Cameroon. The financial analyses are positive, justifying the need for a tourism agency specialist in the promotion of domestic tourism.
